Helping owner-led businesses grow without becoming harder to run.

Growth creates complexity. Work changes, responsibilities shift, systems get stretched, and more decisions start flowing through you. I help you understand what’s creating that friction, find the underlying causes, and decide what to improve first.

What changes as you grow

Growth is good. The friction that comes with it isn’t.

As your business grows, the way you work often doesn’t evolve at the same pace. You may notice:

  • More things needing your attention.
  • Decisions constantly coming back to you.
  • People working around unclear processes.
  • Communication becoming harder.
  • Capacity becoming unpredictable.
  • Clients experiencing inconsistencies.
  • Systems that no longer quite fit.
  • The same problems appearing again and again.

These can look like separate problems. Often they’re connected. I look across your business to understand what’s actually creating the friction, rather than assuming the answer is another hire, another system, more leads, or a new process.

Why diagnosis comes first

The problem you see isn’t always the problem you need to fix.

  • You might think you need better systems, when the real issue is unclear ownership.
  • You might think you need to hire, when the real problem is how the work is structured.
  • You might think you need more clients, when the real constraint is delivery capacity.
  • You might think you have a people problem, when the underlying issue is organisational design.
  • You might automate a process before anyone has worked out whether the process makes sense.

I don’t start with the solution. I start by understanding your business.

How I look at a business

I look at your business as a connected system.

A capacity problem is often a process problem. A people problem is often an ownership problem.

Growth problems rarely stay neatly inside one department, so I look across your business rather than examining one area in isolation.

Business & strategy

Where you’re going, how your business is structured, and whether the way you’re operating supports your goals.

Sales & marketing

How you attract, convert and manage demand, and whether growth is creating pressure further down the line.

Client experience

What clients experience across the journey, and where internal friction becomes visible to them.

Operations

How work actually moves through your business, where it gets stuck, and where unnecessary complexity has built up.

People & organisation

Roles, responsibilities, decision-making, capacity and communication, and how your organisation supports the work.

Systems & technology

The tools and information you rely on, and whether they’re helping or adding complexity.

How the work runs

Understand, diagnose, prioritise, improve.

Understand → Diagnose → Prioritise → Improve

  • 01

    Understand

I start with your business: where you want to go, how the work currently happens, and what you and your team are actually experiencing.

  • 02

    Diagnose

I look beneath the visible problems for the patterns, connections, bottlenecks and likely root causes.

  • 03

    Prioritise

Not everything needs fixing at once. I work out which issues matter most, what depends on what, and where a change will do the most.

  • 04

    Improve

We turn the findings into practical changes, and where it helps I stay involved to support putting them in place.

Business Growth Assessment

A structured look at what’s making your business harder to run, and what may be causing it. Rather than starting with a predetermined solution, I investigate what’s actually happening and work out what is worth addressing first.

You come away with a clearer picture of what’s working, where growth is creating friction, which problems are connected, what’s sitting underneath the visible symptoms, and what needs attention first.

Finding the problem is only useful if something changes

An assessment shouldn’t end with a report that sits in a drawer. Once we’ve identified what matters, I can help you turn the findings into practical improvements: clarifying responsibilities, redesigning workflows, improving communication, addressing capacity, refining the client experience, or changing the systems underneath the work.

The level of support depends on what your business actually needs. Plenty of businesses take the assessment and run with it themselves.

Ongoing research

Questions I keep coming back to.

Read alongside the client work, not instead of it.

This isn’t theory I keep at a distance. What I read changes how I look at a business, and what I see inside real businesses sends me back to the reading.

Next step

You don’t have to know what’s wrong before you start.

You may simply know that your business has become harder to run. You’re spending more time solving problems. Things that used to be straightforward now take more coordination. Your team is busy, and somehow everything still depends on you.

Working out what’s actually going on is part of the job, so you don’t need to diagnose it yourself first.
